2011 ANNUAL MEETING
Help-In-Crisis has been in operation continuously since 1980, providing crisis intervention services to Cherokee, Adair, Sequoyah, and Wagoner counties. The annual meeting is held to celebate the survivors, to mourn the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and to connect those who work to end the violence. The month of October was designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1987 and was based on the original Day of Unity held on the first Monday of October.
The color purple has been used to commemorate domestic violence throughout the years and has been handed down by oral tradition. It was first used by friends of a murdered women in the early 1980s. The color signifies the bruises caused by the abuser.
