Social Wellness Month: Building Stronger Connections, Safer Communities

Every July, Social Wellness Month reminds us of something we often take for granted—the relationships and connections that make life healthier, safer, and more fulfilling.

Social wellness isn't just about having friends. It's about creating meaningful relationships, building trust, supporting one another, and fostering a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. When people have strong support systems, they're more resilient during difficult times and more likely to seek help when they need it.

Unfortunately, many survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and other forms of abuse experience isolation. Abusers often work to separate victims from family, friends, and community resources, making it even harder to escape dangerous situations.

That's why community matters.

At Help in Crisis, we believe every person deserves to know they are not alone. Every phone call answered, every advocate who listens, every volunteer who gives their time, and every donation made helps rebuild the connections that empower survivors to move forward safely.

How You Can Support Social Wellness This Month

There are many simple ways you can strengthen our community during Social Wellness Month:

  • Reach out to a friend or family member you haven't spoken with recently.

  • Learn the warning signs of unhealthy or abusive relationships.

  • Volunteer your time to support local programs.

  • Donate items from our shelter wish list to help families in crisis.

  • Share our resources on social media so others know help is available.

  • Be a compassionate listener—sometimes the most important thing you can offer is your presence.

Together, We Create Hope

Healthy relationships don't just benefit individuals—they strengthen families, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and entire communities. By supporting one another and standing with survivors, we help create a community where everyone has the opportunity to live free from violence and fear.

If you or someone you know needs help, Help in Crisis is here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our trained advocates provide confidential support, emergency shelter, safety planning, advocacy, and resources for individuals and families in our communities.

This Social Wellness Month, let's celebrate the power of community, compassion, and connection. Together, we can build safer lives and stronger futures.

You are not alone. Help is always available.
