VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Crisis Line:

Volunteers man the crisis line on evenings, weekends and holidays and provide information and peer counseling to callers, screen callers for shelter eligibility, dispatch DVRT member or Sexual Assault Advocate and SANE personnel. This volunteer position requires 30-hour of Advocate / Orientation training.

 

Domestic Violence Response Team:

DVRT responds on nights and weekends to provide immediate crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence. Volunteers meet with victims at the hospital or police department to offer support, information and advocacy immediately following incidents of domestic violence. On-call shifts run on Friday from 5:00 pm till midnights, and 24-hour shifts on Saturday, Sundays and holidays. This volunteer position requires 30-hour of Advocate / Orientation training.

 

Sexual Assault Advocate:

An SA responds on nights and weekends to provide immediate support for victims of sexual assault for the purpose of providing support, peer counseling and information regarding the forensic examination as well as support for both the victim and the nurse examiner during the SANE examination. On-call shifts run on Friday from 5:00 pm till midnights, and 24-hour shifts on Saturday, Sundays and holidays. This volunteer position requires an additional 12-hours of training plus 2 observations of a SANE examination.

 

Transportation:

Volunteers who live within the city limits who provide non-emergency transportation , after business hours to current shelter residents when KATS or other transportation is not available. This could include transportation to and from their job, doctor or hospital, etc… This position requires 6- hours of Core Orientation training.

 

Education / Outreach:

Volunteers go to community events to distribute educational / outreach materials and provide information and resources to the community regarding the services that are offered by Help-In- Crisis. This position requires 6-hours of Core Orientation training.
